Marc Jacobs, 63, was hooked up to a lie detector when he was asked the question.
It was part of Vanity Fair’s “Lie Detector Test” series. The interviewer reminded him that Winona Ryder, Lil’ Kim, and Courtney Love wore his designs in high-profile trials, and then asked the inevitable question: would he dress Luigi Mangione, the man accused of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024? Jacobs laughed and didn’t hesitate: “Yes”.
When asked how he would improve his style, the answer was even more unexpected: according to Jacobs, Mangione doesn’t need help. “I think he looks pretty good just the way he dresses”, he said, and acknowledged that he could be considered a true trendsetter after a burgundy sweater he wore to a hearing completely sold out at Nordstrom. Mangione’s state trial in New York has jury selection scheduled for September 8, and Jacobs’s words have already divided social media between those who took them as humor and those accusing him of romanticizing a murder suspect.
