Willem Dafoe has been acting for nearly five decades in close to 150 films. But his real life takes place far from the red carpets: on an estate outside Rome, Italy, where he lives with his wife, director Giada Colagrande.
There he has turkeys, chickens, sheep, goats, and fourteen alpacas that he personally cares for like any ordinary farmer. He says each one has its own personality and, without irony, calls them “the other people” in his home.
That secret became public almost by accident: Mark Ruffalo, his co-star in “Poor Things”, visited the farm and posted photos that garnered more than 1.5 million likes.
Dafoe was not amused that he had been exposed. But it was already too late: the whole world discovered that the actor who played villains and dark characters spends his days feeding animals in the countryside. Ironic, considering that when he was young, he got bored listening to veterans talk about their horses and ranches. 🦙
