Six hours before the earthquake, Jairo Hernán Saavedra asked his friend DJ Prilla for a song. It was a joke: he told him he wanted ‘Brilla’ playing at his tombstone on the day he died.

In the early hours of August 12, in Cali, rescuers found Jairo and his wife Victoria ‘Vicky’ Caicedo beneath the rubble of the María Elvira building. They were embracing. Sofía, one of their three 23-year-old triplet daughters, who had recently graduated from university, also died alongside them.

Ana María, another of the triplets, was rescued alive and is now recovering after several surgeries. Isabella, the third sister, remains missing beneath the building’s remains as the family waits, amid rubble and hope, to find her.
