Mary Kate Golding was 34 years old and had worked in the art department on series such as ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’, ‘Hawkeye’, and ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’. In the early hours of July 21, 2026, neighbors at her home in Astoria, Queens, heard a loud disturbance before police arrived. They found her in the basement with a stab wound to the back. She died at the scene.
Hours later, at 6:40 in the morning, another call led officers to Astoria Park. There was Joseph Azzaretto, 33, Mary Kate’s husband, showing signs of hanging. Police found no indication that a third party was involved in his death and are now investigating everything as a possible murder-suicide, although they have not officially confirmed anything or made any arrests.
What no one explained in time is that Joseph’s brother already had a prior record: in 2021, he pleaded guilty to fatally shooting his own father and received a probation sentence. A violent family history that remained hidden until it was too late for Mary Kate.
