He was riding the New York subway when the train was trapped underground for nearly three hours, without knowing what was happening outside. Convinced he could die, he wrote what he thought would be his last words on a simple receipt.
When he finally managed to get out, he ran straight home to see his girlfriend at the time. There, according to his own account, he discovered that she had been unfaithful to him.

Morrison revealed this story decades later, during his cabaret show ‘Rhythms & Revelations’ at New York’s 54 Below club, and the anecdote went viral because of how unusual it was to mix the trauma of 9/11 with an episode of infidelity.
Criticism quickly followed on TikTok: many called the story bizarre and uncomfortable.
Today, Morrison has been married to Renee Puente since 2014 and has two children, but this story from his youth continues to spark conversation.
