Maximiliano Araújo, 23, had just gotten off a plane at Carrasco International Airport. Hours earlier he had been one of Uruguay’s standout players at the 2026 World Cup, with two goals under Marcelo Bielsa. No one expected the next viral scene with his name on it not to be a dribble.

A short video shows him standing in the back of a small cargo truck, with no kind of passenger accommodations, squeezed in among suitcases and bags alongside other people. The truck leaves the terminal like any other, with no luxury or special entourage waiting for the Sporting de Lisboa winger.

The same player who weeks earlier had said he was arriving at the tournament “at the best moment” of his career ended up making the news for something no statistic records. The image quickly went viral, and many read it as a gesture of humility that strongly contrasts with the shine of the World Cup he had just left behind. 🚚⚽
