Maxwell Caulfield was 20 when he stepped onto a Los Angeles stage and crossed paths with Juliet Mills.
It was 1980, and they were both rehearsing The Elephant Man. He was just starting his acting career. She was already the daughter of Sir John Mills, the older sister of Emmy-winning Hayley Mills, and had two marriages and two children behind her.

Two completely different stages of life… and a connection that, by their account, was immediate. They married that same year.

“It never crossed my mind”, Maxwell said on the Still Here Hollywood podcast. And he says Juliet still feels the same way today. Why? They were both English, both actors, and understood each other effortlessly. He speaks of a youthful quality in her that made the 18-year age gap simply not matter.

Today he is 66 and she is 84. And while many people are still looking at the number, they look at what they have built over more than four decades. Does it really matter how many years separate two people when there is respect, love, and a life shared together?
