Novo Mesto, Yugoslavia, 1970. Melanija Knavs shares a small apartment with her parents and her sister, in a country that still lives under communism.
From a young age, she dreams of becoming a model, and that obsession first takes her to local fashion shows, then to Milan and Paris, and in 1996 to cross the Atlantic alone to New York. There, she learns English from scratch while continuing to work in front of the cameras, eventually appearing on the covers of international magazines.
Two years later, at a New York party, she meets Donald Trump. They marry in 2005, she becomes a U.S. citizen in 2006 through the legal immigration process, and in 2017 she arrives at the White House. From communism to First Lady: the distance she traveled is longer than any runway.
