Melisa Raouf is 20 years old, studies politics at King’s College London, and has just broken nearly a century of history.

She is the first contestant to reach the Miss England final without a single layer of makeup, something no one had done since the pageant has existed. She won the special “bare-faced” round and secured a place among the 40 finalists who will compete on 17 October in London.

Most strikingly: if she wins, she also will not wear makeup to represent the United Kingdom at Miss World. She only used toner, moisturizer, and lip balm, nothing else. And she has already received messages from girls and women up to 50 years old who say they feel differently about their own skin after seeing her.
