Men believe they drive better than women. Just like that, without much mystery. In Chile, a Cadem study showed that 57% of them are convinced of that, while 41% of women believe they drive better.

The data catches on quickly because it touches on an eternal discussion. According to the same study, 68% of people say they know how to drive and more than half learned after turning 18. In other words, almost everyone has something to say when talking about cars, the wheel, and who “does it better.”

But outside Chile, the story doesn’t change that much either. In different countries, men tend to show more confidence behind the wheel, although road safety figures link them more to risky behaviors, serious accidents, speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

That’s where it gets interesting: confidence doesn’t always mean better driving. Because one thing is feeling like an expert behind the wheel, and something very different is driving carefully, respecting the rules, and not thinking the street is your personal track.

So yes, many men believe they drive better. The detail is that the data seems to say something less comfortable: they have plenty of confidence, but maybe not always where they think.
