The July wildfires devastated 27.000 hectares in the Sierra Oeste of Madrid. Seventeen towns were left wounded, including Navas del Rey and San Martín de Valdeiglesias. Homes, forests and crops turned to ashes, and even today 83 families are still unable to return to theirs 😔
Amid that disaster came a gesture no one expected. Lionel Messi donated 80.000 euros to help rebuild the area. Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid, confirmed it herself on her social media:
🗣️ “I want to thank him and tell him that the people of Madrid hope to welcome him soon and give him the applause he deserves”, inviting the number 10 to visit Spain and see with his own eyes what his help means for those towns 🙌
