In Barcelona, there is a place where 400 children a year face cancer with more than just chemotherapy: they have their own rooms, their families nearby, and a team that treats them as people, not patients.
That place exists thanks to many people contributing their share, and Messi was one of them. His foundation contributed 2,6 million euros, alongside the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, to complete the nearly 30 million it cost to build the SJD Pediatric Cancer Center, inside Sant Joan de Déu Hospital. 🏥
It opened in 2022 and is now Spain’s first center dedicated entirely to pediatric oncology, and one of the largest in Europe. While the world celebrated his goals, this hospital continued operating quietly, sustaining something far more important than a title. ⚽❤️
