His grandmother Celia used to take him to training as a child at the Grandoli club in Rosario, and it was she who convinced the youth coach to give him a chance, even though he considered him too small. “Put this one in”, she insisted until she wore him down. Messi was only 11 or 12 years old when she died, and although he was young, he says he suffered greatly: “I was very attached to her, we spent many hours together”.
