Mexican boy was the only South Africa fan at the hotel, and all 26 players lined up to sign his jersey

Luchito arrived alone at the South Africa National Team’s training camp hotel in Pachuca, Hidalgo, with three things under his arm: a Panini album with all the Bafana Bafana stickers already pasted in, a South African flag, and a sign written in English asking for signatures. He waited. And kept waiting. According to several sources, he was outside the hotel for more than three days.

What happened next went viral within hours. Coach Hugo Broos came out personally, motioned for him to come closer, hugged him, and gave him the team’s official jersey — in his size. Then the players arrived. One by one. All 26 of them. They lined up to sign the newly gifted jersey and take a photo with him.

Days later, Luchito returned to Estadio Hidalgo with his family to watch the training session open to the public. Football can be many things. But sometimes, in a silent line of 26 men waiting to greet a boy, it becomes something that is hard not to feel.
