José Luis Romero Calzada, known as “El Tecmol”, has a new strategy for getting noticed in Ciudad Valles: getting into a coffin.

It all happened in the middle of the street, in front of dozens of people with their phones in hand. A group of men carried the coffin to the center of the scene while someone shouted “I need noise to revive my uncle Tecmol”. The crowd began chanting his name as if it were a resurrection ritual, and then the lid opened: Romero emerged smiling, ready to pose for the cameras.

The stunt is part of “aura farming”, the trend of seeking to gain visibility and approval on social media through outrageous antics. For Romero, the show comes just as he seeks to position himself ahead of the 2027 mayoral race. The question he left hanging is simple: how far should a candidate go to be remembered?
