Jonathan Samuel Meléndez Ochoa was 38 years old and the keyboardist for Camilo Séptimo, a Mexican indie rock band. That afternoon, he told his friend Freddy that he was going to meet a business partner. He made one specific request: that Freddy call the police if he didn’t hear from him that night.
At 11:50pm, authorities entered the family’s penthouse in the Grand Viure complex, in Atizapán de Zaragoza, near Mexico City. They found four bodies. Ana Paula, his 35-year-old wife, who was four months pregnant. Sofía, the couple’s daughter, just 3 years old. Aleyda Romero, 21, the family’s nanny. Three of them had been shot in the head; the fourth, in the back. The family dog was also found dead, with its paws tied.
The couple’s 6-year-old son survived. According to prosecutors, the crime took place between 5:30pm and 7:40pm, and a suspect is believed to have arrived at the building before Jonathan returned home. Two men were arrested in less than 12 hours. The band bid farewell to him by calling him ‘our beloved brother’.
