Jesús was 13 when he started dreaming of changing his body.

Today, he is a chef in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and goes by Amphibian Project. His goal is to look like the Amphibian Man from The Shape of Water, Guillermo del Toro’s 2017 film. To achieve this, he has invested between 16.000 and 22.200 dollars.

He started modestly, with small tattoos and facial piercings. Then came tongue splitting, which he says was the most painful procedure. Next, he had his ears and nose removed, an intervention that became complicated and took longer than expected to heal. He also has subdermal implants that alter the shape of his face.

In the movie, it was done with makeup: actor Doug Jones needed between 2,5 and 3 hours to put on the original suit. Jesús decided to make that disguise permanent.

And he doesn’t plan to stop. He says he is considering removing two fingers and splitting his testicles. “There are no limits”, he says.
