Billy Gardell says a medical decision ultimately changed his life. 💙 The actor from Mike & and Molly, now 57, said he underwent bariatric surgery in 2021 after reaching 379 pounds (about 172 kilos) and facing type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart problems.

““It probably saved my life””, he recently admitted on the Breaking Bread podcast. Five years later, Gardell says he no longer takes medication and his diabetes is gone; he currently maintains his weight between 210 and 215 pounds (95-98 kilos) through diet and exercise.

But for him, the biggest change isn’t just on the scale: he can now go hiking with his wife, buy clothes right off the rack, and move with a freedom he had lost before. His wife, Patty, and his son, William, he said, were two of his main motivations for making a change. ““It’s those little freedoms that mean the world to me””, he reflected. ✨
