Teru spent much of his 20 years wandering as a stray animal around Palmdale, California, with no one knowing where he came from. No one would have bet that he would end up in the home of one of the world’s most famous singers.
Wags and Walks, a Los Angeles organization dedicated almost exclusively to rescuing dogs, learned that 33-year-old Miley Cyrus was hoping to adopt a tortoise. It was the first time in its history that they decided to rescue one, just to connect her with it. On Sunday, May 24, Cyrus shared the news on Instagram: a photo feeding Teru yellow bell pepper and a simple message, “Welcome home, Teru”.
The adoption came just two days after Cyrus received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But the real star here is Teru, and the shelter used his story to remind you of something urgent: animal shelters in the United States are overwhelmed, and sometimes a coincidence is enough to change the life of the person who least expects it.
