Leslie Greenhough is 71 years old and has a cat who refuses to leave.
Her name is Millie, she is 31 years old —about 146 in human years— and lives with him in Stockport, England. Paula, Leslie’s wife, adopted her as a kitten in 1995 and died in 2020 from complications of Covid. When Paula was no longer there, Millie stopped eating. Leslie then began offering her fresh shrimp, salmon and chicken to help her regain her appetite, and ten years ago, after problems with tap water, he switched her to bottled mineral water. He has never stopped giving it to her.
Today, that routine is keeping her alive, and he wants to make her the world’s longest-lived cat according to Guinness, a title currently held by Flossie, who is 30 years old. She is still missing one document: official veterinary proof of her date of birth, since only a photo from 1995 exists.
