“Those who want to sit on their backsides all day get what they deserve,” said Barrie Drewitt-Barlow in an interview with The Sun, where he addressed the rising cost of living and said he is fed up with other people’s misfortune stories.

For ages, people have said that money doesn’t buy happiness, yet it is often necessary to make life a bit easier.

Many times, we’ve wished for more money to pay off debts, buy more food for our families, have better access to healthcare, or simply enjoy a few comforts. But it’s not easy to come across a million dollars overnight, so we have to get by through work.

Even then, it’s unlikely to make us millionaires, especially with the rising cost of living. This is a reality for many people around the world—and one that businessman Barrie Drewitt-Barlow is well aware of.

The owner of a £175 million fortune (around $194 million) knows he won’t face the same challenges as most people in the UK during the cost-of-living crisis. In fact, he believes it benefits him, and he shared his perspective.

“The cost-of-living crisis is only increasing my wealth,” he told The Sun. “People are feeling the squeeze, so they’re turning to cheaper household and personal care products, moving away from more luxurious and expensive brands,” he added. He also shared his views on those struggling to make ends meet.

“People often ask how we can be so generous with our spending when so many are struggling right now. I do feel for them, but at the end of the day, I’ve been in their position,” he said.

“No one handed me a silver spoon and told me to go have a good time. I work 19 hours a day, every day of the week, and as the old saying goes, I work hard, play hard—and I do both,” he added.

The 51-year-old, who recently welcomed his seventh child with his fiancé Scott Hutchinson, also didn’t hold back in his criticism.

“I’m tired of hearing people’s bad luck stories, to be honest. There are always opportunities if you look for them, and if I can do it, anyone can. Those who want to sit on their backsides all day get what they deserve,” he told the British outlet.
