A dog named Beily was found alive among the rubble after the earthquakes that struck the area at the end of June. The animal received veterinary care for dehydration and eye ulcers caused by exposure to dust, but is expected to recover.
The discovery was especially moving because Beily was curled up next to the deceased mother of his 11-year-old owner. The girl explained that the dog wanted to protect her and that she will remember how much he loved her mom.
The earthquakes left more than 5.500 fatalities and many families searching for signs among the ruins. Amid that pain, Beily was reunited with Victoria and her father. He did not change the tragedy they experienced, but he gave them back a familiar presence that was still breathing amid the dust 🐶
