Solange Magnano was 37 years old when she traveled from Córdoba to Buenos Aires for a simple cosmetic touch-up.
It was November 2009, and the model, crowned Miss Argentina in 1994, trusted Dr. Mónica Portnoy for a procedure on her buttocks. Hours after the surgery, the pain began, followed by an urgent transfer to Fernández Hospital, and then to intensive care at Sanatorio Itoriz in Avellaneda. She died on November 29 from a pulmonary thromboembolism.
What the experts found later explains the extent of the damage: liquid silicone in industrial quantities, not only in her kidneys and lungs, but also in her brain. That is how her husband, Gustavo Rosso, recounted it some time later. In 2013, the doctor was convicted of medical malpractice, although by then Solange’s body had already revealed how far an improperly administered substance can travel.
