After days of search, Andrew was found in critical condition; he was on the verge of succumbing in quicksand on an industrial property.
Two officers in Florida responded to a call about an abandoned car near industrial facilities on Paran Church Road in Melrose. What they did not know was that upon arriving at the scene, they would uncover a disappearance that had already been underway for several days.
One of the officers recognized the vehicle and recalled an encounter with its owner three years earlier. Andrew had been arrested on charges of vandalism and trespassing after entering a processing plant without permission in 2023.

In the current case and in what happened 3 years ago, the same modus operandi was present. Inside the vehicle were chains and weights to record exercise videos for Youtube. For the officers, the situation was clear: Andrew had entered the industrial area illegally to record one of his videos, thus beginning the search for him. However, when they notified headquarters of what they had learned, they realized something: Andrew Giddens had been reported missing several days earlier.
It was Valentine’s Day when his father noticed and reported his disappearance, 7 days before the officers found the vehicle.
The discovery raised the search to maximum alert, but two days of aerial searching by helicopter and the ground deployment of rescue teams had no success. However, the call from the manager in charge of the industrial excavation facilities revealed his dangerous whereabouts: trapped and immobile in the mud of the sand pit.
Dozens of officers tried to reach him, but the terrain was like walking on a thin layer of ice; at any moment one of them could become trapped. Despite the difficulties, the rescue teams reached Andrew, discovering the main reason that made his rescue difficult: he had a concrete block chained to his ankle that was part of his exercises.
Andrew was forced to endure hunger, dehydration, and temperatures of 30 degrees Fahrenheit while trapped in the mud.
The rescue operation had to be fast, but careful. It began at dusk, taking more than two hours and using ropes, boards, and pallets to prevent others from becoming trapped in the unstable ground.
Once free, Andrew was conscious and able to communicate with medical personnel, who determined that he was in critical condition and needed hospitalization. After the rescue, it was announced that no charges would be filed over Andrew’s trespassing onto the property.
