It was 2018 when Johnny Deep was finishing filming Pirates of the Caribbean and his ex-partner, Amber Heard, accused him of domestic violence. The biggest entertainment industry had two options: risk releasing the movie with Deep and having him possibly be convicted, or fire him, pay him for his work and, if he were guilty, save the project.
Of course, the second option won. Years later, the actor was acquitted and Disney offered him millions of dollars to return as the iconic pirate Jack Sparrow; however, nothing has been confirmed yet. The company protected its investment but lost the performer’s talent, perhaps forever.
This harsh reality shows that companies are not interested in justice, only in avoiding controversy. Their reputation and money are everything, and even if they have to fire their star employee, they will do it, so yes, they were selfish with Deep; it was nothing personal, just business.
