The school bus had been stopped for nearly an hour on the side of a highway in Calaveras County, California. The driver had stopped the vehicle on August 24 due to the students’ unruly behavior; but when one of the students tried to escape through a window, the driver took the drastic step of ordering all the windows to be closed and waiting for authorities.
Outside, the parents began to gather in desperation after receiving calls and text messages from their children, who were frightened and trapped inside the vehicle. Faced with the driver’s outright refusal to open the doors, one mother lost patience: she furiously pounded on the bus door until she broke the glass in the entrance and, as the videos show, climbed through one of the openings to confront the driver face-to-face in front of the children.
After the tense altercation ended with the arrival of the officers, the woman was arrested on vandalism charges at the request of the school district. School authorities are currently reviewing recordings of the incident to determine what disciplinary measures will be applied to the students who also jumped out of the windows that day.
