Káh Felipe, whose real name was Karine de Sousa, died at 36 in Brazil after documenting for years her life with xeroderma pigmentosum, a rare genetic disease that affects the body’s ability to repair damage caused by ultraviolet light.

The influencer began showing signs of the condition when she was 3 years old. Her family initially thought they were freckles, but the disease progressed and skin tumors appeared over time. In recent months, she had been facing metastatic cancer that had spread to her bones, liver, and lungs.

Káh was the mother of 4 children and shared her treatment, hospitalizations, and family life with more than 800.000 followers. Her final months were marked by intense pain and medication to control it. On her social media, she left behind a family, a visible struggle, and many people who learned to name her disease.
