Yuen Fong could not breathe without oxygen support, much less travel to a church.
So Cathy, her daughter, decided that the wedding would come to her. At Tseung Kwan O Hospital in Hong Kong, the medical staff transformed a room into a party hall: pastel balloons, flowers pinned around Yuen Fong’s neck, and a hospital bed serving as an altar. There, amid cables and monitors, Cathy and Curtis performed the Chinese tea ceremony, offering the drink to the mother as a symbol of blessing.

Yuen Fong, her face barely visible beneath the oxygen mask, took her daughter’s hand and said the phrase that summed it all up: “Take care of her. She is the apple of my eye”. Cathy later confessed that her hope was that the day would give her mother one more reason to keep fighting the disease.
