Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, is 28 years old and has more than 500 million subscribers on YouTube. He could have spent his fortune on any whim. Instead, he used it to build an entire village in Ghana’s Eastern Region.
It is called Abna Dakwa Village and came into being after a year of planning and eight months of construction. It has a school for more than 300 students, ten homes for teachers, a medical clinic, drinking water, solar power, and a community market. Everything is designed to help families that currently depend on cocoa farming stop sending their children to work on plantations.
The investment came to around 10 million dollars, and it was not an isolated gesture: his foundation, Beast Philanthropy, already works in 11 cocoa-growing communities in the area and signed a partnership with The Rockefeller Foundation to provide free school meals for five years in Ghana and Kenya. Along the way, MrBeast took direct aim at major chocolate companies for allowing that exploitation to continue in their supply chain.
