James Fairbanks discovered that a man convicted of sexually abusing minors lived near an area where he was looking to move. His name was Mattieo Condoluci, he was 64 years old, and he had two convictions for sex crimes against children.

Fairbanks said he had seen him watching some children as they played and that he even had children’s toys in his yard. Convinced he could hurt someone again, he decided to confront him.

On May 14, 2020, he went to his home in Omaha, United States, and shot him seven times, killing him. He then sent an email to the media confessing to the crime.

But the story took an unexpected turn: Amanda Henry, the deceased man’s own daughter, came to Fairbanks’s defense.

The woman reported that her father had also sexually abused her during her childhood and confessed that she had lived in terror for years.

“Killing my father was horrible, but children are much safer now”, she said.

During the trial, Amanda supported her father’s killer, while her brother spoke out against him.

In 2021, Fairbanks was sentenced to 40 to 70 years in prison for second-degree murder and a weapons-related offense.

The case sparked deep controversy: a man convicted of taking the law into his own hands and a daughter who, far from hating him, asked that he not be sent to prison.
