Lily Allen said it with a laugh, but she wasn’t joking. 🎤
The 38-year-old British singer confessed on the Radio Times podcast that her daughters Ethel Mary and Marnie Rose, whom she has with her ex-husband Sam Cooper, “completely ruined” her career as a pop star. “I love them and they complete me, but in terms of stardom, they completely ruined it for me”, she said.

She then went further: she said it deeply bothers her when people tell her that women can have it all, because for her that simply isn’t true.

Behind the statement lies an old wound. Allen said that her parents, actor Keith Allen and producer Alison Owen, were “quite absent” during her childhood, while she and her brother Alfie Allen—an actor in Game of Thrones—wandered alone through Portobello Market. “That left unpleasant scars that I am not willing to repeat”, she explained.

That is why she chose to pause her career and prioritize her daughters, even if it meant giving up the success she had already achieved. 💭 Is giving up fame for children a sacrifice, or is it what every mother should be able to choose without guilt?
