Kevin Bacon came to think that his career was nearing its end. In 1989, his mother had cancer, his wife Kyra Sedgwick was pregnant with their first child, and the family was also struggling financially. The actor felt that, despite years of work, he wasn’t building the career he had imagined.

Amid all that uncertainty, he agreed to appear in Tremors, a movie about giant creatures that moved underground and attacked the residents of a small town. It wasn’t exactly the kind of project Bacon dreamed of making, and at the time, he saw it as a sign that things couldn’t get any worse.

While walking with Kyra through the streets of New York, the actor broke down. As he recalled years later, he couldn’t believe he was making a movie about “underground worms”. He was afraid he was making a desperate choice just when he most needed his career to take off. 🎬

Tremors hit theaters in January 1990 and wasn’t a major box-office success. But that wasn’t the end of the story. When it arrived on VHS, it found an audience that fell in love with its blend of horror, humor, and giant creatures. Little by little, the movie began to gain fans, eventually becoming a true cult classic.

Over time, several sequels followed, and Tremors ended up becoming one of the most memorable movies of Bacon’s career. What, during one of his most difficult periods, seemed like a job to be ashamed of ended up becoming a movie the audience never forgot. 🪱📼

Sometimes, when everything seems to indicate that one chapter is coming to an end, the story may only just be beginning.
