For years, @siberianpear did what she thought she had to do: hide her gray hair.
She was born with dark hair, but the women in her mother’s family went gray early, and they all dyed their hair. She started covering hers while she was still in high school. The pressure became so intense that she once ended up crying from exhaustion and complained to her mother: “Why did you give me these genes?”. After college, she stopped fighting them, but she tried red, black, burgundy, and blonde, and always returned to her natural shade.

Everything changed in 2020, during lockdown. She saw a woman with long, silver hair and something clicked: for the first time, she thought gray hair could be beautiful. In November, she cut off the last dyed strands. She was happy, but also felt exposed and feared what people would say when they saw her with completely silver hair.
Today, her mane is part of her identity. She gets compliments, though she also faces criticism for wearing her gray hair while young. She says the process gave her a community of women who chose to accept themselves instead of hiding a natural part of their appearance. What about you—would you dye yours or let it grow out? 🤍
