There was no warning: on Wednesday, August 26, a glacier collapsed on the border between Nepal and Tibet, unleashing a torrent of ice, rock, and mud that rushed at full speed down the Bhote Koshi River.
Within minutes, the Rasuwa district was unrecognizable: houses, bridges, roads, and even hydroelectric plants disappeared beneath a dark, thick mass.
Today, thousands of Nepalese soldiers are scouring the area using helicopters and drones, trying to locate the hundreds of people trapped among the debris.
Among the missing are foreign tourists, workers, and as many as four Spaniards, according to the minister himself, José Manuel Albares.
The authorities have already declared the area a disaster zone and are urging residents to stay away from the river channels: the water, they say, still has not finished receding. 🌊
