Felipe Reyes Villena was 73 years old and did not know that night would be his last.
Weyner Smith Pérez Quispe, 26, had been suspecting his wife for months. He activated his phone’s GPS and followed her to a hotel in Carabayllo, Lima. There he found them, on the night of Thursday, August 13, leaving together. Security cameras on Parque Zonal Avenue recorded the following minutes: an argument that dragged on while the woman tried unsuccessfully to separate them. Felipe managed to tell him something that was recorded forever: “Nephew, you already lost, I have more money than you”.
Seconds later, Pérez Quispe pulled out a knife and attacked him with multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck. Neighbors tried to help him, but Felipe died at the scene. Police arrested the attacker minutes later, a few blocks away, when he entered a restaurant to wash his bloodstained hands. The victim’s daughter, Liz Reyes, suspects that everything may have been planned by the attacker’s wife, although the Carabayllo Prosecutor’s Office has not yet confirmed it.
