Nick Reiner, 32, is accused of stabbing his own parents, director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, in their Brentwood home in Los Angeles in December 2025.
A grand jury formally indicted him on two counts of murder with a stalking allegation that could have opened the door to the death penalty. But according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, that option was ruled out. The reason is almost impossible to stomach: Rob and Michele Reiner publicly opposed the death penalty, and that principle ultimately protected the man accused of killing them.
