14 years ago, Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron starred in one of the most unexpected scenes of their careers. In the film The Paperboy, released in 2012, Efron’s character is attacked by several jellyfish and left lying on the beach, suffering from their stings.
Then Kidman’s character, Charlotte, appears and decides to help him in a rather peculiar way: she urinates on him to relieve the pain.
What is most surprising is that the scene was not entirely created with special effects. According to director Lee Daniels, Kidman actually performed the act during filming.
However, when Daniels saw the result in the editing room, he began to wonder whether it had gone too far and considered cutting it. That was when he called the actress.
Kidman’s response was unequivocal: “Lee, you made me pee on Zac Efron. If you don’t put the scene in the movie, you have to be brave”.
Ultimately, the moment remained in the final cut and became one of the most talked-about sequences in The Paperboy, a thriller set in Florida that also featured Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack.
Years later, Kidman and Efron worked together again in the romantic comedy A Family Affair, although this time their shared scenes were much more conventional.
