Sex workers in Montreal are up in arms in an effort to secure better working conditions, announcing a service strike to coincide with the Grand Prix, a Formula 1 event that corresponds to the most lucrative period of the year for the sector.

The union is demanding official recognition of sex professionals as workers and access to government benefits, encouraging F1 fans to support the strike and boycott the Grand Prix through a statement:

“We believe this is the best time to strike. The clubs are at their busiest, which makes it the most lucrative period of the year. It is our opportunity to threaten that income and hit them where it hurts most. We are trapped in an employer-employee power dynamic that only benefits the bosses”, the union stated.
