Nannan is only 3 years old.
In Linxia, China, a stray puppy fell into a narrow crack between two buildings, so narrow and deep that no adult or rescue equipment could reach him. The animal cried out in fear at the bottom, and the minutes passed without anyone finding a way to get him out.
That’s when someone in the family thought of the only person small enough to fit in there: Nannan. Her father put together an improvised harness, secured her carefully, and slowly lowered her into the darkness of the gap. She didn’t cry, get scared, or resist. She simply waited calmly until she reached the bottom, took the puppy in her arms, and hugged him tightly while they lifted her back toward the light.
The video of that rescue, recorded on August 26, went around the world within a matter of hours. Because there are kinds of bravery that cannot be taught: they simply emerge, even in the smallest body.
