National Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva confirmed an unprecedented measure in the history of world football: Argentina’s delinquent child support debtors will not be allowed to enter the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States.

A decision that affects some 34,000 people, of whom 13,000 are included specifically for not paying child support to their children.

The official said that they have already sent U.S. authorities the list with the names of those barred, and stressed that they want to establish clear rules about what is expected of violent offenders and delinquent child support debtors.

In a context where UNICEF reported in mid-2024 that 56% of women in Argentina do not receive the child support required by law for their children.
