In Cardrona Valley, among the mountains of New Zealand’s South Island, there is a farm that needs extra hands and does not ask for a résumé.
It is called Kind Farm and is a sanctuary where horses, ponies, donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs and chickens live, all rescued by someone from something worse. In exchange for accommodation and food, they are looking for volunteers from anywhere in the world willing to feed them, groom them, clean pens and take the ponies and donkeys for morning walks. There is also work in the nursery, planting trees. No previous experience is needed, just a genuine commitment to animals.
The workday is about four hours a day, five days a week, and the rest of the time is free to explore Wanaka and Queenstown, two of the country’s most sought-after tourist destinations.
