A 12-year-old boy was walking toward the Ceuta border with Morocco, pushed along by a legionnaire. He was crying. He repeated a single phrase: “No, Morocco, no”.
No one knew who he was or who he was with, because there was no adult by his side.
Journalist Nicolás Castellano, from Cadena SER, reported the events live. Several women who were near a taxi stand came over to translate what the boy was shouting through tears.
It was then that what Spanish law prohibits simply expelling was confirmed: an unaccompanied minor.
The intervention of those women, the journalist himself, and a Legion commander stopped the return just before it was carried out. If no one had been there to translate his cries, would anyone have stopped in time?
