Tom Cruise, 64, is no longer the pilot from Top Gun or the agent from Mission: Impossible. In the first trailer for ‘Digger,’ he appears with a belly, gray hair, and a pronounced Southern accent, playing Digger Rockwell, an oil magnate described as “the most powerful man in the world” 😳

It is the first time Cruise has worked with Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the Mexican director and two-time Oscar winner, whom he has been a fan of since seeing ‘Amores Perros’ in 2000. The film was shot over six months in the United Kingdom alongside cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, and adds John Goodman as the president of the U.S. amid a global ecological disaster.

Cruise himself said it at the presentation event in Los Angeles: “I never had anything that challenged me like this, and neither did Alejandro”. ‘Digger’ arrives in theaters on October 2, 2026.
