What was supposed to be a happy memory ended up breaking a child’s heart. Twelve-year-old Brody Ridder came home with his yearbook almost blank, after several classmates refused to sign it when he asked them to.

Among the few signatures, there was one that hurt more than all the others: his own. “I hope you make more friends,” he wrote, reflecting how difficult his year had been, marked by teasing and loneliness.

But the story took an unexpected turn. His mother shared what happened on social media and, in a short time, older students who didn’t even know him came to his classroom to fill his yearbook with messages of support.

The same book that was almost empty ended up full of words that reminded him of something important: that he was not alone.
