While South Korea had already recorded 23 deaths from high temperatures and a record of 42,5°C, the official newspaper Rodong Sinmun —the mouthpiece of Kim Jong-un’s regime— came out with a rather unusual recipe: dangogi guk, the traditional dog meat soup.

According to state media, doctors at Pyongyang General Hospital say that this dish helps prevent cardiovascular risks, diabetes and hormonal imbalances caused by the heat. The recommendation came just as Typhoon Dolphin worsened temperatures in the area, and it joins other more conventional advice such as eating watermelon, cucumber and staying hydrated.

What stands out is the contrast: while Pyongyang defends this tradition as a health remedy, South Korea is moving toward completely banning the breeding and consumption of dog meat. 🇰🇵🇰🇷
