The nurses at the Women’s Hospital of Vilar dos Teles, in Rio de Janeiro, had been suspicious of anesthesiologist Giovanni Quintella Bezerra for weeks.
What caught their attention was the excessive amount of sedative he administered to pregnant women and the way he moved behind the sheet that separated him from the rest of the surgical team.
One of the professionals even said that the doctor sedated them “too much” and that “the patients couldn’t even hold their babies” after giving birth.
It was at that moment that they decided to act, and during the third surgery on Sunday, they managed to switch rooms at the last minute, hide a cellphone, and film what no one wanted to believe: the 32-year-old anesthesiologist unzipped his pants and did horrific things to the patient’s mouth while she was unconscious during a C-section.
The recording was handed over to the police, and Giovanni Quintella Bezerra was arrested on the spot and now faces justice while authorities search for other possible victims in at least ten public and private hospitals where he worked.
