Jamie Causey was one semester away from graduating and didn’t know how to pay for it. 💜
She uploaded a video to TikTok sharing her distress, never imagining who would see it. Olivia Rodrigo, 23, sent her a private message: “I know you don’t know me, but I love your videos so much… I’d love to help you”. Jamie almost didn’t see it: TikTok filtered the message, and it remained hidden for days. When she finally read it, she couldn’t believe it.
She shared her account with her, and by the following Monday, the 5.000 dollars were already there, courtesy of the singer. Jamie completed her degree at the University of Alabama and now works as an academic adviser at the same university where she almost couldn’t graduate.
She kept it a secret for more than a year before telling the story because she didn’t want to turn it into a spectacle. “You didn’t owe me anything”, she wrote to Olivia. “You simply chose to show kindness to a stranger, thank you so much”.
