Sulemana Abdul-Samed, popularly known as Awuche, died at 33 after facing serious health complications related to gigantism. He was recognized as one of the tallest people in Ghana, and his case had drawn national and international attention.
In 2022, a measurement taken by the BBC recorded a height of nearly 223 centimeters, although many people in his community believed he was still growing. His extraordinary size brought him notoriety, but also physical difficulties, reduced mobility, and constant medical problems.
He was admitted to Tamale Teaching Hospital after developing infected sores on his legs. In Gambaga, his hometown, many remember him as a kind and humble person. His height made him known; his good character was what those who bid him farewell repeated.
