Fourteen lionesses surrounded an elephant that seemed helpless in Zambia’s Luangwa National Park. At one point, he had three lionesses on top of him at the same time, and the tourists filming the scene kept shouting: “Come on, you can do it, don’t give up”.
The elephant, whom the team of guides named Hercules, kicked, spun around, and never stopped resisting until he managed to scare them all away. The next day, they found him safe and sound with his herd.
The most astonishing part came afterward: although at first he was believed to be barely one year old, expert Dr. Joyce Poole determined from the size of his tusks that Hercules was between 7 and 8 years old. And since elephants live up to 70 years, you might still come across him teaching some lion a lesson.
