Some people pass away, but leave behind a version of themselves waiting for us each time we turn the screen back on. For many, Hayden Panettiere will always be that young girl we watched grow up as we grew up too. We saw her in Ice Princess, and then came Claire Bennet in Heroes, that cheerleader capable of healing again and again who ended up becoming one of the unforgettable faces of the 2000s. 🥺
That is why it hurts especially to think that Hayden passed away when there were only 5 days left before she would celebrate another year of her life. Today should have been a day of birthday wishes, affection, and new memories. Instead, those who loved her and those who spent years accompanying her from the other side of the screen have to learn to celebrate her existence in a different way.
Hayden was only 36 and still talked about the future. Shortly before, she had said that she felt she had “so much life left to live”. Perhaps that is why it is so hard to accept that there will be no new characters, interviews, or versions of her for us to discover.
But the ones she already gave us remain. We can put on a movie again and find her young once more. We can go back to Heroes and watch her heal an impossible wound. And those of us who grew up with her can keep encountering that Hayden again and again, exactly as we remember her.
Happy birthday in heaven, Hayden. Life did not let you make it to 37, but an entire generation will have many years to keep remembering you ❤️.
